Spring Forget-Me-Nots Blooming in the Irish Countryside
Forget-Me-Nots bloom through a background of Irish grass and stone.
These lovely blue blossoms, which also happen to be the official state flower of Alaska, my birthplace, are one of more than 950 native and introduced wildflower varieties that also call Ireland home.
There are assorted interpretations of the meaning of the flower’s name, but perhaps the most poignant can be linked to those many thousands, make that millions, of emigrants who left Ireland in the 1800’s in search of a better life on distant shores, never to see their Irish families and friends again.
And we humbly forget them not…
