Portumna Castle, County Galway

The stately remains of Portumna Castle are located on the northern shores of Lough Derg in County Galway.

Built in 1618, it was one of the first Renaissance-style manor houses when architectural styles were changing from Medieval tower houses to more elaborate buildings.

This one was destroyed by fire in 1826 but has been semi-restored since 1968.
