Boolynagleragh Bog and Wind Farm

Wind farm towering over bog where turf is harvested.

I visited a bog recently where old and new ways of life co-exist in the Irish countryside. This is the Boolynagleragh bog and wind farm above Lissycasey in County Clare, one of the many bogs now being taken over by giant wind turbines.

It’s not uncommon now to see windmills rising above the barren bogscapes, and it’s quite a brilliant use of the land, still allowing the age-old practice of turf cutting.
