Dunmanus Bay Seascape, County Cork, Ireland
The rocky shores of County Cork’s Mizen Peninsula exchange wavelets with the Sheep’s Head Peninsula across the historic waters of Dunmanus Bay.
This bay has played a significant role in the commercial development of Southwest Ireland.
The O’Mahony Clan built several castles along the bay, including the historic Dunmanus and Dunlough castles, from where they supervised commercial trading operations with the European continent during Medieval times.
Beginning between Sheep’s Head and Three Castle Head, Dunmanus Bay is 7 kilometers wide at its mouth and extends 25 kilometers to Four Mile Water near the village of Durrus.
